Be Our Guest: An Alphabet of Food in Disney Animated Classics

This post is part of the Food in Film Blogathon hosted by Speakeasy and Silver Screenings. This is my first blogathon and I'm so excited to be participating!

https://hqofk.wordpress.com/2017/09/19/announcing-the-food-in-film-blogathon/

I've always found that animated food looks so much tastier than the real thing, and given my passion for Disney films--before I became a classic movie buff, or even a movie fan in general, I was an animation nut--I couldn't resist this opportunity to write a post about all of the delicious, and sometimes not so delicious, food that can be found in these movies. However, I wasn't quite sure how to structure a post like this that covers such a huge number of films. Ultimately, I decided to do it alphabetically, running through all of the films based on common themes that correspond to letters of the alphabet. So go get a snack and settle in for the ABCs of Disney dining!

(Before I get on with the food, I just want to clarify that in this post I'm covering only the majority of the theatrical films from Walt Disney Animation Studios; I'm excluding live-action Disney films, Pixar films, and Disney animated films created by any other studio, such as the direct-to-video sequels. I exclude these films only because I need to keep this post at least somewhat manageable! All screencaps are taken by me and the film each dish is from is listed in the captions.)

As is clear from the huge variety in images here, Disney's animation styles have changed a lot over the years, but one thing has remained the same: the food always looks really, really good! So, what Disney food moments make you hungry? Did I miss a really important one? Let me know in the comments, and in the meantime make sure to check out all of the other delicious sounding entries in the Food in Film Blogathon!

    1. Thank you! :)

Glad to see you're familiar with Rescuers Down Under--that egg subplot is definitely one of my favorite Disney food moments!

  2. Wow – thank you for this visual feast! (Did you say you made all these screencaps yourself? They're gorgeous!) I didn't realize how many scenes involved food in these Disney films, and I love how you categorized them. What a wonderful tribute to both these films and food itself!

Thank you so much for joining the blogathon and for sharing these treats. :)

    1. Thank you very much! Yes, I did the screencaps myself. I own all of these films and decided it would be easier to get the images myself than try and find the right ones online--it was very time-consuming but I'm really happy with the results :)

Yes, I was amazed by how much food I was able to find! It seems to play a key role in at least one scene of every film, it's remarkable. Thank you as well for hosting and giving me the opportunity to write this post, I never would have realized the food connections in these films otherwise!

  3. Cool idea! Two of my favorite Disney scenes include food and I'm glad to see they're listed here. Thanks to Fauna, I always want to read recipes like she does ("Cups cups cups cups cups..."). And thanks to Snow White, I've always wanted to bake a pie the way she does, birds and all.

    1. Glad to hear both of your favorites made it into this post! :) I'd definitely like to take some cooking lessons from those two, I think we could all use some magic and a few helpful birds to improve our culinary skills!

  4. Great post and overview. There is so much food in Disney and it is used brilliantly to showcase characters, their habits and obsessions or just a passing fan factor in a film. Congrats on your first blogathon. You really nailed it!
